Log Thickness: What We Recommend

At Summerhouses Unlimited, we often get questions about wall insulation and whether it is required. The following blog with explain why our log cabins are perfect for year round use without the need for wall insulation.

Barbados Mini – 44mm Log Cabin

The majority of our standard cabins come with a log thickness of 44mm and the option to insulate the roof and floor. This is the recommended thickness for natural insulation, and it certainly does a fantastic job. One of our best sellers, the Barbados Mini, comes in this thickness, and our customers agree it holds up incredibly well, despite the unpredictability of the UK climate. Some of our standard cabins can also be upgraded to a 70mm log; which is even greater at providing natural insulation.

Our Bespoke Office –  can be produced in a 68mm

Thicker logs have more mass, which means they can store more heat. During winter, a thicker log can minimise the need for heating in the winter months and conversely, in the summer, keeps your cabin cooler. In addition, we can also offer a bespoke service; these cabins can be produced in a 68mm log, so whatever your project may be, you don’t have to worry about being too cold in the winter.
