Summerhouses Unlimited offer an exterior and interior painting service for our customers. To maintain the manufacturer’s warranty all cabins should be fully painted within 2 weeks of installation. The manufacturers require the logs to be painted in their entirety which means removal of all window and door trims (but not all at the same time). Each trim has to be painted on both the outside and underneath ensuring they are fully dry before putting them back onto the cabin.
Our painting service usually requires 3 visits.
For the exterior we paint three coats to the main body of the cabin. We usually recommend an alternate colour for the doors and window trims. In our opinion/experience we think a contrast for the windows and doors looks better. This is what most customers choose and as we have painted our cabins on our display site. A contrast seems to really bring the ‘cabin to life’ and in our experience looks much better than a cabin painted in one colour.
The beauty of the paint we use is that it seals the cabins really well and once painted with three coats does not need painting again for 10 years apart from a little touching up with natural log movement. The paint is self priming and undercoating and is highly flexible, allowing for natural timber movement.
We normally recommend clear polyurethane inside the cabin so you can have the feeling of being in a wood cabin. The other advantage of this is that if you get bored in the future you can paint over it without any issues.
We are happy to advise on other colours and send you photos of cabins we have painted if that helps you make a decision on whether to go with our painting service.
